Are you related to this John Curran ?  He and his wife Catherine (Sheehan) had nine children: John, Tommy, Clarence, Frank, Margie, Annie, Mary, Helen and Catherine who was born New Year's Eve, 1874 in Bangor, Maine.

My name is Dan Curran in Washington DC, my father is a John Curran from Portland, Me.  He is the youngest of six children by Francis J. Curran aka Sean -Frank.  Sean-Frank was first cousins to John Ford , the director, whose mother was Barbara Curran.  I have a pic of my fathe and mother on www.myspace.com/thefightingcurranbros
Hi Bill - actually there *may* be some cousin connection in the different Curran lines going back to Bangor in 1874, very likely. I think I may have spoken too soon in my reply to my nephew Matthew.

MY father John H. Curran Jr. was the oldest of his family of five, he was born in Portland in 1922. (passed away in 2004). HIS father was also named John H. Curran and he, I *believe* was born in Bangor also, not sure of year, but died when I was approx. 6-7 years old in either 1972-1973 and was well into his 80's when he passed away. He is buried in South Portland next to my Grandmother, I go to the grave whenever I visit Maine, which is several times a year to see family still there. I plan on finally trying to get up to Bangor this summer to visit the Homestead.

My Grandmother was Madeline Gallagher, also from Portland. I know my Grandfather John H. Curran Sr. came from a VERY large family, I believe it was ten kids, only one girl, her name was Mary. There is a family photo showing them all together. Sadly, I can't recall my Great Grandfather's first name right now, but he very likely had a brother John and the folks you are referring to from Bangor in the late 1870's are likely a family of one of his brothers or cousins. Matthew Curran (now a teenager) and myself (now in my early 40's) ARE in fact related to the Curran Family of the Homestead up in Maine. My father, Uncle Joe and Aunt Joanne all had recollections of playing there as children and I believe I've heard mention before of Field's Pond. I *think* the farm belonged to one of my Grandfather's brothers, possibly one of his cousisn; I can check on this. My Uncle Joseph T. Curran (passed away in April 2005 almost to the day a year after my Dad John died in April 2004) gave me a very detailed family tree he had put together, I'll have to dig it out.
Hi Matthew -

This is your Aunt Deirdre up in New York, I'm your father's youngest sister. I stumbled on this site while trying to find info on the Curran Family Homestead up in Bangor, Maine. That's an old farmhouse that belonged to one of Dad's uncles that has now been converted into a museum type thing.

I was happily surprised to see your posting, this Internet is a pretty amazing thing, huh? I hope you get this, I'm submitting it in early March and you posted your query way back in November.

I'll give you the correct spellings of everyone's names, in our order of birth: Monica, Sean, Tighe, Lucy, Deirdre (me). If you want to email me directly Matthew, I'm at:

Hope you are well, get in touch!

And in response to Bill's reply, no I don't think we are related to those other Currans you outlined in your response. All of our thread comes from Maine.

I am related to the Curran's of the Curran Homestead.  My father is Tom Curran of Bangor, Maine (born 2/19/1940).  My grandfather was Raymond Joseph Curran of Bangor (born 3/5/1898, died 2/28/1981) who was one of 7 or 8 children of Dennis Curran and Ann Jane Varley both of Bangor.

I used to visit Field's Pond (as I prefer to refer to it!) every summer as a kid when I would visit my grandparents in Bangor.  The last Curran inhabitants were Alfred and Catherine Curran who were brother and sister.

My dad was in the FBI in Wash, DC and I was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia.

I saw your posts online and I am trying to figure out if my currans are the same as yours. My maternal great grandmother was Annie Bridget Curran born 1/1/1886 in Bangor, Maine Her father was John Curran and Delia (sheehan) curran. However, my mother swears that she was known as Catherine Curran. Are these the same people you are talking about. And, if so, any info would be greatly appreciated.
