CURRAN, Iola Beryle (Stafford)

Much loved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, daughter and friend to many, Iola passed away in her 89th year, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Hamilton General Hospital, the same Hospital where she completed her nursing training with the Class of '45.

Iola was predeceased by her husband John Curran (1985), her son Gary (1991), and her parents Neta Stafford (Watterworth) and Harvey Stafford. She will be sadly missed by her sister and lifelong friend Ilene Ford (Stafford, predeceased by husband Jack Ford) (St. Thomas), sons Dave Curran (Toronto) and Steve Curran (and wife Claudette, of Vancouver), grandson Shane Curran, nieces Donna Butcher (Ford, St. Thomas), and Janice Hurst (Ford, London), and their families, surviving sister in law Norma Curran (Burlington), surviving brother in law Archie Curran (Oakville), Iola's St. Thomas cousins, many nieces and nephews, and her long time friends and nursing classmates.

Iola was born in St. Thomas, Ontario in 1923 and moved to Hamilton to pursue her nursing training in 1943. She met her husband Jack on his return from England following his service in the R.C.A.F., and they married in Port Stanley, Ontario in 1947. Gary was their first son, followed by Dave and Steve, and they settled in Dundas where Iola lived for the rest of her life. Their home on Wilmar Court remained a welcoming constant until recent years. Iola had a warm sense of humour and connected with people around her, throughout her life. She was active in the Dundas community with the Home and School Association, and founded the first library at Yorkview School. She was a longtime fan and driver to numerous school and sporting events for her sons. Iola worked for many years with the Hamilton Nurses Registry and later in life enjoyed world travel.

Friends will be received by the family on Monday, February 13th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cattel, Eaton & Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main Street, Dundas, Ontario, where a Service and reception will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Special thanks to the staff at Blackadar Continuing Care in Dundas and the Hamilton General Hospital Stroke Unit.
