RIP Aunt Pat - Patricia Ann Curran

Peacefully, on July 19th, 2005 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the age of 66. Beloved daughter of Norma Curran. Predeceased by her father William Macgregor Curran and her brother Robert James Curran. We'll miss you Aunt Pat.

Pat will be missed by her sister-in-law Shirley Curran, her aunts and uncles Richard Somerville, Lois Spencer, Arch Curran, Margaret Curran, Iola Curran, nieces and nephews Robert (Bob) Curran, William (Bill) Curran, Kathleen (Kathy) Caron, Cameron Curran, Susan Hampson, Wayne Walker, and Rob Walker, sixteen great-nieces and nephews, friends the Dynna twins and "The Orphans".

Pat began her career with the CAA in 1962 after graduating from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute's Radio and Television arts program. During her 33 year career, Pat was a well respected authority on road safety, winter driving techniques, and vehicle safety. Until 1977, Pat did the traffic reports for many of Metro Toronto's top radio stations and was dubbed "The Voice of the CAA", she then went on to do countless TV and radio interviews.

Pat served on many safety related organizations; she was a Member of the Metro Safety Council, The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals, a Trustee and Chairperson of the Traffic Safety Committee and Secretary and Vice Chairperson of the  Better Roads Coalition. Pat took the lead and actively campaigned for seat belt legislation and promoted the concept of government approved standards for seat belts in automobiles manufactured in North America. She worked closely with Transport Canada to promote the proper use of Child Restraint Systems. Pat implemented a wide variey of safety programs for drivers and pedestrians. In 1984, pat responded to a request from the then Ministry of Correctional Services Minister to "Stop Impaired Probationers" in Toronta and served on the Advisory Councile for "People To Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere" PRIDE.
